You Can’t C Me is another easy reversing challenge on Hack The Box. The description of this challenge is “Can you see me?” Like most challenges I first run the program.

It seems like another “password” type challenge. I then open it up in Binary Ninja which is my preferred disassembler. I go to the main function and without too much looking I see a “strcmp” which is always a great place to start with challenges like these.

I decide to dynamically analyze this binary since it will most likely be the faster way. I run the program through ltrace and it prints the password out for me nicely.

I then try this string as the password and it is correct and gives me the flag.

This was a fun but simple challenge that first taught me ltrace which can be a very useful tool. Thanks for reading and happy reversing!
